Artist: Chloe Gillespie
Meet the Adelaide artist capturing fleeting moments with painstaking detail.
It goes without saying that Adelaide born and based artist CHLOE GILLESPIE loves animals. But Chloe isn’t interested in show pony’s or pedigree breeds. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. She’s drawn to animals who are indifferent as to their appearance, who - in fleeting moments of pure joy - aren’t shy to show off their quirky personalities. Taking this fun and endearing approach shines through in every aspect of Chloe’s work, from the cheeky expressions she gives her animals, to the loving way she imagines their lives to be when she writes about her work.

Graphite is Chloe’s weapon of choice, using a range of graphite grades to achieve complex light and dark shades, and an array of drawing techniques to draw feathers, scales, and fur to perfection.
Each drawing takes on average 2 months to complete, and that’s after all the planning and the preliminary sketches!
Things aren’t over when the drawing is complete … because next comes Chloe’s favourite part of the creative process: giving each little guy or gal a funky name that matches their personality. Horatio the horse, Eric the piglet, Miguel the Macaw … it’s hard to think of them being called anything else once you learn their names!
