Furniture Maker: Rebekah Hawke of Tov&Co

Tov & Co is the passion project of Brisbane based former architecture student Rebekah Hawke.

The word “Tov” is Hebrew and usually translates to “good” or “good, beautiful and functional, in the way the creator intended”. This is Bek’s guiding philosophy through every stage of her furniture making, from ensuring her designs are as equally practical as they are beautiful, to hand selecting the hardwood for each project to accentuate the natural beauty of the timber.

Every piece is a labour of love that is carefully designed and handcrafted in perhaps the most picturesque little workshop in Brisbane.

Bek crafts her furniture using a lot of different species of solid hardwood, including American White Oak, which looks stunning left natural with just an oil finish, or stained a solid black.

Solid Blackbutt is also a favourite, which is a beautiful Australian hardwood, native to Bek’s hometown in the south coast of Queensland, as well as northern regions of New South Wales.

Nothing about what Bek does is rushed or over-designed. It's the one-on-one relationship that Bek has with the timber, the furniture and her clients alike, that makes her work so uniquely hers.

It wouldn’t be a workshop without a resident feline. Meet Quill, who probably likes to think Bek’s Instagram audience is entirely due to his frequent appearances on the feed. What a gorgeous little guy though, seriously.
